Hey guys,

I wanted to be the bearer of this news. Last night, for the first time in our history, we won the NWMSU Outstanding Fraternity. This is a HUGE award and has been a goal that us seniors have set our sights on since we started. We also won Overall Greek Week Supremacy, Delta Zeta Chapter Enrichment Award, and were awarded best overall Philanthropic Service for Greek Week. It was a capstone night to an amazing year.

Gentlemen,

I hope all is going well for each of you. I wanted to give you all an update on the active chapter as the semester wound to a close. It was another great semester for Phi Sig. We reached and exceeded all of the goals that we set as a chapter at the beginning of the semester.

1. Grades: We had 30 men achieve a 3.0 GPA or better. The actives came in first place among all fraternities with a 2.96 GPA. Our pledges finished 4th place (out of 9) with a 2.5.

2. Membership: We will be starting next semester with right around 70 members (give or take a few). We will start spring rush a few weeks after the start of the semester. Elections for new Executive Board members and all other officers will be in early March. Currently, we are in 2nd place in intramurals and are looking good for a 3rd straight Outstanding Chapter of the Year award.

The house is looking great! We have a few house rookies moving in....they will be welcomed appropriately I am sure. If any of you have any more questions, just let me know!

Gentlemen,

I just got back home from our annual National Conference in Indianapolis. I wanted to let you all know the successes and awards that the Phi Sigs (Bags)are bringing back to Northwest.

  • 2 scholastic awards given out to us for exceeding previous goals and All-Mens GPA.
  • 2 Jensen Awards recieved for the amount of money our chapter donated to our national scholarship as well as philanthropic causes. (2nd in the nation in total $$ donated and 3rd in per man average donation).
  • Oh yeah and finally for the 2nd consecutive year we were awarded the Herbert L. Brown Outstanding Chapter Award given to the BEST Phi Sig chapter in the entire nation!!!
It has obviously been a huge year for both atives and alumni of the chapter. We are working very hard on the Grand Opening this year and getting ready for Rush. Just wanted to let you all know what has been going on.

Phi Sig Excellence...we don't print this on T-shirts or make an extravaganza out of it...it always has been and always will be our standard.

I just received the active chapter's grades for the spring semester. As it turns out, this semester has seen us reach many accomplishments and satisfy many of our goals in academics. There are a total of 28 men that achieved a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above! As a chapter, we came out with a 2.76 which put us above the all-male average and among the elite as far as fraternities go. A huge thank you goes out to all of the Alumni who helped us out this year. Your support has helped us tremendously with our Scholarship Program as well as all other areas of the fraternity.

Hey Guys,

It is getting close to the end of the year and I just wanted to give you guys an update on the actives. We ended the year very strong picking up several awards and saw membership increase steadily. Our active chapter is up to about 55 men. Last week at NW Greek Awards Ceremony several members were honored. Lon Nuss won Outstanding Greek President and I received Outstanding Greek Man of the Year. This is the first time in campus history that two men from the same fraternity were given these two awards. We are heading down to our National Convention in July with a great chance of picking up our second consecutive Outstanding Chapter of the Year award. It has been a great year highlighted by the doors at 940 College Avenue reopening.

We have an All House White Glove scheduled for Thursday starting at 12:00. There will be plenty of guys over here that day and we should be able to get this project knocked off.

Also, I want to get started quickly on figuring out the Active Chapter's contribution to the house via the flagpole stand.

Doug Russell, the chapter adviser, is moving in starting on Thursday. We have gradually been moving him in over the past few weeks but he should be completely in the house starting next week. We did room assignments last night. The house will obviously be full starting in August, and pretty full all summer. 18 guys living there in May, 15 guys living there in June, and 17 guys living there in July. Leases are all signed and ready to go for the fall.

We just held initiation last week, and with 17 new members we initiated Mr. Pat Hofer as an honorary member. As many of you know, Pat has been around the chapter for the last few years since his son, Dustin, became an active member. We felt very adamant about initiating Pat who is a Phi Sig at heart! If you'd like to congratulate him, or simply send him a greeting you can email him at Thanks!

In response to Brother Gary Gruhn's post here's an email listing of pretty much everyone in the chapter now. We just closed spring rush with 7 guys, but I don't have their email addresses. I didn't include phone numbers or addresses because many will change once the house is completed. Many of us are still living in temporary locations, and excited about moving in. Logan Lightfoot, Casey McConkey and myself plan on attending the alumni event in KC next week, so we look forward to seeing a lot of you there. We also have a chapter email address if you want to send email there as well... hope this helps!!!

Dear Brothers,

I wanted to just send you an update on some of Epsilon Nu's efforts and activities throughout the recent semester. First off, our alumni's efforts in dealing with our new housing project have been nothing short of amazing. We are nearing the completion date for our new "Mansion" at 940 College Avenue, hoping to have it completed within January. Though having only one week of classes and finals week coming up on us, we have tried to work more hands on in helping to finish the project. Our Alumni chapter has been nothing but supportive of us, and we can never repay them for the blood, sweat, tear, and $$ that they have put into this, Thank you.

Something that we have always taken pride in is our pursuits of Homecoming excellence. I am glad to report that we all but swept 1st place in all of our Homecoming ventures. Nonetheless, we won Homecoming Parade Supremacy at Northwest.

Throughout the semester we have tried to increase our philanthropic efforts, and have participated in nearly every organization's philanthropy events. Most recently, we have helped to sponsor a family for "Adopt-A-Family" by donating money to our local Order of Omega chapter, we have sponsored twelve children for a local "Angel Tree" philanthropy which involves buying Christmas presents for the individuals, and we donated more than 100 articles of clothing to an Order of Omega sponsored "Rummage sale" where the procedes and additional clothing will go to the less forutnate.

We have competed strongly in intramural events, had a great rush, and have tried to focus a great deal on improving grades and our new membership education program, while adhering to our rituals and values. I am extremely proud to say that things have been going very well, and that we are trying to gear up for another successful semester in the Spring... and move into our new home at 940.

As always, we appreciate all the support, help and brotherly love that we have received from our alumni, the Grand Chapter, and International Headquarters on a daily basis. Our success is due, in great part to each of you. Thank you and God Bless!

DAMN PROUD!

Fraternally yours, Nathan "Mercury" Leopard Grand Chapter and Alumni Relations

We've closed rush with 24 new members and we've been hitting homecoming stuff pretty hard the last week. D-Chi was found guilty of dirty rushing and has lost recruitment priveleges for next fall. However, they are in the process of appealing to the V.P. of Student Affairs. Things are going good!

09/19/2001 From Nathan Leopard

Brothers,

At this point we've had a pretty successful rush. We've signed, what we feel, is a real quality 21 new members, still a couple of bids out! Rush is a little down from the previous couple of years. Sig Ep is in the mid-20's, TKE is in the teens, and D-Chi has signed over 40 new members. In explanation of that last part, D-Chi has been brought up on 2 account of "dirty rushing", and may possibly be brought up on 4 accounts... they MAY lose recruitment privileges. They have displayed an outright defiance against IFC rules and legislation, have talked dirt on all fraternities, and lied about awards and honors all throughout recruitment. I guess we'll see what happens!

Again, we're extremely happy with the men that we have, even though it has been somewhat overshadowed by the actions of our favorite fraternity! We're just beginning to work on float, and with the Outstanding Chapter Award, the New 940 College Ave., and a great pledge class we're using that momentum and building on it! Expectations are high, and we plan on having an extremely successful year!

Damn Proud!

Fraternally,
Nathan Leopard

The Phi Sigma Kappa National Convention was held this past week. I wanted to let you all know that we were awarded the Herbert L. Brown Outstanding Chapter Award that is given to the most outstanding Phi Sig chapter in the nation. One of the several criteria that goes into this judging is Alumni support. This is a very big honor for the actives.

Hopefully, housing issues will be taken care of by the end of the week. We still have several guys who are still looking for places to live. The university has offered us rooms but at a ridiculously high cost. Please let us know if there is anything that the active chapter can do to help out with the house or fundraiser (make phone calls, fliers, etc.)

Thanks,
Logan Lightfoot
